FS9 multi-ply cutting bed cuts 16 layers of leather for a Tier-1 seat-cover supplier — production output up 38%.
A Tier-1 automotive seat-cover supplier in Bursa, Türkiye runs cut-to-pack lines for three OEMs. Their existing single-ply die-cutting cells limited throughput and material-yield, especially for embossed bovine leather and synthetic suede.
The Challenge
Manual stack-up of 6–10 plies was slow and error-prone. Edge fraying on synthetics meant a 4–6% scrap rate. The team needed to compress 16 plies under vacuum, hold blade-cooling stable across long marker runs, and integrate with their MES schedule.
The Solution
favorable engineered an FS9 multi-ply cutting bed with magnetic-levitation vacuum, blade compensation tied to a 3-axis encoder, and a custom MES connector. Installation, training and QA spanned 6 weeks; the line went live without missing a single OEM ship date.
- FS9Multi-ply cutting bed (90 mm compressed plies, 80 m/min)
- SPX6Fully-automatic spreader feeding the FS9
- Gen III HP45 plotterPre-cut marker output
Results
- +38%Daily cut output (vs. legacy line)
- −66%Scrap rate on synthetic suede
- 6 wkFrom contract to first OEM-accepted ship
Customer Voice
“We expected a fast cutter. We got a partner that understood our OEM ship cadence and rebuilt our marker workflow around it.”
